When hiring people with disabilities you may face some or many challenges. Some common challenges that smaller organizations may face is to support the hiring of employees with disabilities, such as adding special equipment (wheel chair ramp)
Another challenge that both small and big companies that may face is giving special accommodations during the interview process and after. An example could be “respondents who had support for the interview process- such as a hearing impaired candidate-noted it would have been very helpful to have that same support for the new hire’s on boarding or training period.”. Hiring someone with disabilities may require a lot of education on it to understand both the range and nature of all the disabilities at the workplace, and their successful integration. Challenges may involve in understanding, accommodating and supporting intellectual and non visual disabilities.
However understanding the restrictions and capabilities of the individual will greatly improve the chance of productive and rewarding employment.
