Workplace Violence Prevention in Health Care

Ontario takes workplace violence very seriously. Every Ontarian has the right to work in a safe and healthy environment and that includes nurses and other employees in the health-care sector. However, workplace violence is a serious problem in the health care sector. Violence needs to be prevented.

That is why the government has created a Workplace Violence Prevention in Health Care Leadership Table to better protect health care professionals on the job.

Due to the nature of their work, health care workers face a number of workplace hazards including exposure to infectious diseases, ergonomic hazards, slips, trips and falls, as well as violence.

Based on the advice of the Leadership Table, Ontario will develop an implementation plan to:

  • Make hospitals safer
  • Reduce incidents of workplace violence in hospitals and the broader health care sector
  • Change attitudes toward workplace violence and improve workplace safety culture regarding violence
