Updated First Aid Program updates coming soon

We’re launching our modernized First Aid Program on June 22, 2026. Our updated program will help keep people safer on the job by improving the quality and consistency of workplace first aid training across Ontario.

The changes will make it easier for you to access effective workplace first aid training no matter where you are in the province, so you can learn the skills you need to respond in medical emergencies.

What’s changing in the updated program?

We’re bringing training in line with national standards (Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z1210:24, First aid training for the workplace — Curriculum and quality management for training agencies).
First aiders will have access to a larger network of training providers approved to deliver training. All training providers will use First Aid Program badges to let you know they are approved by us or working with a training provider who is approved by us.
There will be new names for training courses and certificates: Emergency First Aid will be called Basic First Aid, and Standard First Aid will be called Intermediate First Aid.
First aiders will continue to be able to recertify Intermediate First Aid certificates once. In the updated program, they will be able to recertify with any WSIB-approved training provider.
We will continue to accept all workplace first aid certificates from anywhere in Canada, as long as they meet the CSA Z1210 standard. In the updated program, first aiders will be able to recertify these certificates in Ontario before they expire.

All current first aid requirements and WSIB-approved training providers remain in place until the updated program launches.

All first aid certificates issued up until June 21, 2026, by current WSIB-approved providers will remain valid until they expire.
