Swing Stage Operator Training in Concord, Vaughan, Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton
Swing stages are suspended platforms used for tasks like window washing, building restoration, painting, and exterior repairs. Workers often operate these platforms dozens of stories above ground. Without adequate safety measures and training, the risk of injury or death is extremely high.
Common hazards include:
Falls due to improper fall protection
Equipment failure (e.g., faulty hoists, broken guardrails)
Electrical hazards from nearby power lines
Overloading or unbalanced platforms
Sudden weather changes (wind, lightning, ice)
These hazards are not hypothetical—they have led to numerous real-life fatalities in Ontario. That’s why the province enforces strict safety regulations around swing stage use.
What Ontario Law Requires
Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the Construction Projects Regulation (O. Reg. 213/91) require all swing stage workers to complete two types of training:
- Working at Heights Training
All workers using fall protection on construction sites must take this MLITSD-approved course. - Suspended Work Platform System (SWPS) Training
This mandatory, Ministry-approved program teaches operators how to:
Safely assemble and inspect swing stage systems
Operate hoisting mechanisms
Use fall arrest and restraint systems
Conduct pre-use inspections
Execute emergency and rescue procedures
